Meet the Doctor

Dr. Kristen BarenborgDr. Kristen Barenborg was born in Greenille SC and grew up outside of Reading PA.  She did her undergraduate studies in biology at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and received her doctorate in Chiropractic at Life University in Marietta Ga. During her time at Life University she distinguished herself by receiving the Clinical Excellence Award for serving as the president of the Senior Intern Association.   She graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1996.

Since graduation Dr. Barenborg has received training in Neurofeedback from the University of Bridgeport. She is one of only two chiropractors in the state of SC who are BCIA board certified in neurofeedback. She has become certified in Cox Flexion Distraction technique.  She has successfully completed 100 hours of post graduate training in X-Ray studies and has attended hundreds of hours of post graduate seminars in order to stay current with the latest chiropractic techniques.

Dr. Barenborg has been practiciing in Summerville since 1996 and has been honored to receive the Summerville Journal Scene's Peoples Choice Award for 2 years in a row as the Best Chiropractor in Summerville.  She is also listed as a preferred provider for Dr. Phil McGraw of the Dr. Phil show and has been enlisted to treat patients for Dr. Phil using BrainCore Therapy. 

Dr. Barenborg uses a variety of adjusting techniques in her practice including Diversified, Activator, Thompson drop table, Cox Flexion Distraction and SOT.  These techinques range from traditional hands-on adjusting to low force activator adjusting to no force SOT blocking.  By being proficient in these different adjusting styles, Dr. Barenborg is able to treat all patients regardless of age or condition.  She believes that all adjustments should be gentle and comfortable to the patient.

 In addition to chiropractic treatment, Dr. Barenborg also offers neurofeedback therapy in her office.  Her neurofeedback system offers the very latest in brainwave biofeedback technology.  Utilizing a sophisticated system of quantative EEG (QEEG) analysis she is able to map the entire brain to evaluate patients for neurologic dysregulation.  Through neurofeedback patients are able to retrain their brainwave patterns and alleviate symptoms of many chronic disorders and often eliminate the dependence on drugs.

Dr. Barenborg is married and has two young sons who keep her very busy when she is not at work.  She is an active member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church and on the Board of Directors at Trinity Classical Academy and a member of the South Carolina Chiropractic Association.
